Filming at the JW Marriott, Magnolia Room: An Intern Spared.
The morning of:
Filming, day one. My alarm went off at 5:00 a.m. on a Wednesday. I learned something very important: morning traffic sucks. I was late to the shoot, even with a two hour window. In the film business, late = you’re fired. Luckily, I was spared such a fate.
Hiccup aside, I was ready to start the day.
Arriving at the JW Marriott:
Walking through the JW Marriott Hill Country, a busy resort, the convention center was packed full of visitors and staff. There was obvious beauty in environment that we would be filming in. I was taken away by the sheer elegance of the room. The Magnolia room to be exact. The bold carpet paired with golden recessed lighting and elegant walls. Once in the room, I came to see the crew and reps we were filming for. The area was transformed into an interview set. A green screen up in front of the double doors. Lights set for filming. I appreciate the “behind the scenes” work. Our four man crew handled it like champs. We were there all day and it was so much fun.
The Take Away:
Overall, the take away from all of this is appreciation, from two sides. It’s not every day you get to spend the day at a luxury resort & spa, and to do something you enjoy at said resort. I worked with professionals, who love production just as much as I. This is the appreciation that I was able to personally gain.
Besides the clients and the crew, no one knows the hard work put in. Specifically, building a green-screen, lighting set up, blocking the natural light, sound, seating and more, are all key things that we did in order to make this shoot successful. We accomplished a lot in creating a filming environment in a resort conference room. They won’t know the complex set up we worked tirelessly to create, and that's the beauty of production.
I’m grateful I was given the opportunity. The day of work helped revitalize my passion to create again. I'm ready to get started on my next project. Wherever it is, the location may not get any better than the Magnolia room. Yet, cannot be worse than the traffic.
